On January 1, 1999, two First-Line Descendants (Ruth and Dorothy) and two Second-Line Descendants (Jeanette and Felicitas) were spending the Christmas holiday together at Ruth’s home in Atlanta. During their discussions, Jeanette brought up the fact that we rarely see each other as a family group. The four then organized a family reunion of the descendants of George and Minnie Lee Ruffin. The first Ruffin Family Reunion was held in Atlanta in July 1999. Since then, we’ve welcomed family, friends, and extended family from many branches, all bound together by fellowship and love.
The reunions were held each summer from 1999 through 2011, at which point it was decided to have the Ruffin Family Reunion every other year rather than every year; but at the reunion in 2013, it was decided to resume having reunions annually.
In July 2014, a Planning Committee was formed to assist the host during the process of formulating ideas and locations for upcoming family reunions. The first reunion held after the Planning Committee establishment was in 2015 held in Norfolk, Virginia and hosted by First-Line Descendant Liz Ruffin Miller.
